Alan Jackson Health; Battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease

Alan revealed on September 28, 2021, that for the last ten years, he has been battling with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a degenerative nerve disorder that is slowly diminishing his strength while walking and performing on stage. He said that his deceased father, paternal grandmother, and older sister all had the illness.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Charcot-Marie-Tooth affects the nerves responsible for controlling the muscles, is somewhat common and it affects approximately 2.6 million people globally. Although there is no reliable treatment for it, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is manageable with supportive therapy and it rarely affects the muscles used for key functions like breathing.

He claimed that it’s now “more and more noticeable” because it has huge effects on his posture on stage despite the fact that he’s had the condition for a decade. Jackson continued by saying that the disease has not harmed his voice and that he intends to keep making music and doing performances as long as he is able to.

In fact, his most recent album, ‘Where Have You Gone’, was released in May. He made the decision to talk about the disease because his audience would start to notice some changes in his performances. Although the disease is not life-threatening, it will probably continue to change the way he moves and performs his songs.

He said in an interview, “It’s been a while, and it’s starting to affect my performance on stage in a way where I don’t feel comfortable, so I’ve been hesitant to talk about this in public and with my fans. I don’t want them to assume I’m intoxicated when I’m on stage because of my balance and mobility issues. I have this neuropathy, a neurological disease I inherited from my daddy.”
