Ali MacGraw is a model, author, and animal rights activist from the United States. Ali rose to prominence after appearing in the film Goodbye, Columbus (1969), for which she received the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

She rose to international prominence for her performance in the 1970 film Love Story, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

After only three films, Ali was named the world’s top female box office star in 1972, and she was honored with a hands and footprints ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Ali later appeared in the popular action film The Getaway (1972).

She starred in Convoy (1978), the romantic sports drama Players (1979), the comedy Just Tell Me What You Want (1980), and the historical novel-based television miniseries The Winds of War (1983). Moving Pictures, Ali’s autobiography, was published in 1991.

MacGraw appeared as Carol McCoy in the hit film The Getaway in 1973, co-starring with Steve McQueen.

During filming, the pair fell madly and passionately in love, and Ali would eventually leave Robert Evans to be with McQueen. Her final role before she married him was in The Getaway.

She gave up her acting career to be a full-time wife in order to appease McQueen, who preferred his wife to be a homemaker rather than a career woman. While Ali was willing to give up her interests to make Steve happy, he was not.
