Andrea Tantaros’ Case against FOX News Was Dismissed
A federal court dismissed former Fox News Network presenter Andrea’s complaint in May 2018, in which she claimed that the company had spied on her after she had accused top executives of sexual harassment.
Tantaros’ allegations, especially that Fox News meant that it would cause serious mental distress, were “based primarily on guesswork and conjecture,” according to U.S. District Judge George Daniels in Manhattan.
Daniels said Tantaros was unable to demonstrate that someone hacked into her computer and phone in order to spy on her or attempt to intercept her conversations.
Additionally, he said that the alleged physical tracking, which Tantaros claimed comprised black SUVs parked outside of her houses and one of which was being driven by a member of late Fox News head Roger Ailes’ security detail, was not prohibited by federal wiretap legislation.
She acted as her own attorney in the spying case and did not immediately return a call for comment. The case was brought in April 2017, a month after a New York state judge ruled that Tantaros’ harassment claim should have been resolved through arbitration.
Tantaros said in a court document that Fox News considered her a “danger” after she rejected a “seven-figure” settlement offer in June 2016. Earlier this week, Fox News resolved a number of cases alleging racial and gender discrimination.
