He stated that he intended to retire at the end of 2021 after his current contract with WIP expired, but the longtime presenter added that he will work one more year as an expression of gratitude to the people who have managed this radio station and been so kind to him.

Cataldi said that exhaustion was a major factor in his decision to step down earlier this year. He said that being unable to operate, sleep, or think straight led him to leave WIP’s morning show for three weeks in May. Though he claims to be getting better, the Rhode Island native says the incident convinced him it was time to retire.

Starting in January, he reduced his on-air shift from five to four days per week, taking Wednesdays off until he departs WIP at the end of the year. Cataldi stated that he expects Hughes and Morganti to remain on the show as his future replacement.
