Rangappa was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Indian parents who moved to the United States in 1970. She explained to Elle that her parents “came under a provision where the government was actively in search of doctors,” as a result of the 1965 Hart-Celler Act.
Her father, Jai Rangappa is an anesthesiologist who formerly served at an army installation in Virginia. Her mother, Vinaya Rangappa works as an accountant. She used to compete in beauty contests as a young girl.

Asha Rangappa’s Career
Rangappa joined the New York Division of the FBI in 2001 as a Special Agent with a particular emphasis on counterintelligence investigations. She began her FBI training at Quantico, Virginia. She evaluated potential dangers to the nation’s security, carried out classified investigations into alleged foreign agents, and worked covertly.
Asha developed skills in surveillance technology, interview and interrogation methods, guns, and the use of lethal force when she was a member of the FBI. She lectures and publishes about leadership ethics, information warfare, and national security law.
