Who is Bernard McGuirk?

Bernard McGuirk was an American radio personality. Until his death, he worked at WABC as the host of morning drive time alongside Sid Rosenberg. He started working at the station in 2007, the same year when “Imus in the Morning Show” resumed on the air.

Bernard McGuirk revealed in 2021 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. After learning that his health was worsening, his fans and friends expressed their thoughts and prayers for a speedy and healthy recovery to him.

On December 20, 2021, he posted a picture of himself resting in a hospital bed. He also added a caption urging people to seek colonoscopies and cancer screening right away.

His appendix ruptured on August 22 as a result of his prolonged fight with prostate cancer, which, according to his most recent medical records, forbids him from receiving chemotherapy until his appendix is surgically repaired.

Many listeners of Bernard and Sid in the Morning sent prayers for him as soon as they learned about it and even advised others to get their prostates checked because doing so could save their lives.

McGuirk passed away on October 5, 2022. This came after a 5 year-long battle with prostate cancer. Only a few weeks short of turning 65, his death was heartbreaking for everyone at the station, according to Rosenberg.

Staff members will share their memories and sentiments of their colleagues during a special tribute to McGuirk that will be broadcast on the radio show. The memorial will air on the 11th of October 2022, and according to McGuirk’s colleague Curtis Sliwa, it will serve as an “Irish wake.”

Bernard joined WABC in 2007 after the “Imus in the Morning Show” returned on air. He worked as the show’s Executive Producer and was a funny on-air contributor.

He had been a part of the program ever since WNBC Radio’s last seasons. Prior to that, he held a number of positions at NBC, including those in promotions and the network and local news departments. Bern moved from WNBC Radio to WFAN Radio in New York City with Mr. Imus in 1988, and he stayed there until 2007.

During that period, McGuirk contributed with a variety of comedic roles as well as man-on-the-street interviews as part of the on-air ensemble of the Imus in the Morning program, which was broadcast on MSNBC TV for 10 years.

In December 2007, the Imus in the Morning program moved to WABC 77. Bernie remained on as the program’s executive producer and added color to the day’s local and national news updates by offering his own perspective on the day’s important and less-important events.

Up until the summer of 2015, the show was also broadcast on the Fox Business Network.

Bernie and Sid Rosenberg decided to team up in 2016 to co-host “Bernie & Sid” from 10 Am until Noon. In April 2018, they moved to morning drive to replace Imus with “Bernie & Sid in the Morning.”
