When Bill Ritter first joined Eyewitness News in June 1998, he was a correspondent for ABC News and 20/20 from Monday through Friday while also anchoring the weekends. In October 1999, he took over as the 11 p.m. Eyewitness News anchor from the legendary Bill Beutel. In February 2001, he also added the 6 p.m. program.

Ritter and Baderinwa were named the new co-anchors of the 5 o’clock edition on September 13, 2019, taking over for Diana Williams, who had announced her retirement from the station after 29 years and made her final broadcast the previous day.
