Who is Bob Brenly?
Bob Brenly is an American baseball sportscaster and a former professional baseball player, coach, and manager. He works as a color analyst and commentator for Diamondbacks broadcasts.
He spent much of his playing time as a catcher with the San Francisco Giants throughout his Major League Baseball career. After his playing career came to an end, Brenly worked as a coach for the Giants, a commentator for Fox, and a broadcaster for the Chicago Cubs.
He was chosen to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2001 campaign, and in his first year, he led the team to their only championship, and this made him the fourth rookie manager to do so and the first since 1961.
Brenly had his contract terminated by the Diamondbacks in 2004 and returned to working as a broadcaster for the Cubs until 2012.

In 2007, Brenly worked as a game analyst for TBS cable television’s postseason coverage. He covered the Rockies–Diamondbacks series in the NLCS together with Chip Caray and Tony Gwynn.
Brenly agreed to a four-year, $3.5 million agreement on September 13, 2008, to keep working as the Cubs’ color analyst. Dick Stockton served as Brenly’s play-by-play companion for the Division Series postseason coverage on TBS from 2009 to 2013.
On October 17, 2012, he decided not to sign a contract extension with the Cubs and WGN. Brenly agreed to a five-year contract on October 18, 2012, to serve as the Diamondbacks’ TV color analyst.

In June 2022, Brenly was challenged by San Diego Padres pitcher Mike Clevinger to “find out who the people really are instead of just running his mouth up there.”
Clevinger was making reference to Brenly’s repeated on-air criticism of the Padres, such as saying a player could move around the bases more easily if he didn’t have a “bike chain around his neck” or suggesting Diamondback pitchers throw at Padre batters during a rout.
