Who Was Bobby Beathard?
Bobby Beathard, a member of the American Pro Football Hall of Fame, served as general manager for the San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins in the National Football League (NFL) until it his death.
His teams participated in seven Super Bowls (four of which they won) during his 38-year NFL career, starting with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1966, the Miami Dolphins in 1972 and 1973, the Redskins in 1982, 1983, and 1987, and the Chargers in 1994.
He received a football scholarship to play for LSU in college, but after summer workouts he felt homesick and went back to his family. After a year at El Camino Junior College, he attended Cal Poly, where he played football as a backup running back, starting quarterback, and defensive back while helping the team to consecutive 9-1 seasons.
He spent his early post-college years playing semi-pro football and doing other non-football jobs after going undrafted in 1959. He had pre-season stays with two professional teams but was unable to earn a slot.

Bobby married his wife, Christine Beathard in 1978. They were together in marriage for a record 44 years. They have three adult children namely, C. J. Beathard, Clay Beathard, and Tucker Beathard.
Bobby Beathard Cause of Death
Bobby Beathard died on January 30, 2023, at his home in Franklin, Tennessee. His son Casey said his death was a result of Alzheimer’s complications.
Washington Redskins
Beathard was appointed general manager of the Washington Redskins in 1978. Beathard, Russ Grimm, Joe Gibbs, and Art Monk all assisted in guiding the Redskins to two titles and three Super Bowl appearances while he was in Washington.
Furthermore, Beathard’s players made up the majority of the Redskins team that won the title in 1991. During his tenure, the Redskins selected notable players in the first round, including Art Monk, Mark May, Russ Grimm, Dexter Manley, Charlie Brown, Darrell Green, Charles Mann, and Gary Clark.
Beathard left his position before the 1989 NFL Draft and worked as a studio analyst for NFL on NBC for the entire 1989 season. Beathard became the general manager of the San Diego Chargers in 1990.
The team earned its first division title in more than ten years and made its first Super Bowl appearance in 1994 in just his third season in San Diego. 2000 saw his retirement.

What Does Bobby’s Son Do For a Living?
Bobby’s son, Casey Beathard, is a country music songwriter. Kurt Beathard, his second son, was Illinois State’s offensive coordinator before becoming a football coach.
He has three more grandsons: C. J. Beathard, a quarterback, and Tucker Beathard, a singer-songwriter. His grandson Jeffery “Bobo” Beathard played wide receiver for four years at Appalachian State University.
2019 saw the deadly stabbing of Clayton Beathard, another of Beathard’s grandsons, in a bar brawl in Nashville, Tennessee. Pete Beathard, the younger brother of Beathard, played quarterback for the Houston Oilers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and USC.
