Carole King Klein is a singer-songwriter from the United States who has been active since 1958, first as a member of the Brill Building’s staff songwriters and then as a solo performer. She is the most successful female songwriter in the United States during the second half of the twentieth century, having written or co-written 118 Billboard Hot 100 pop singles.
King was the most successful female songwriter on the UK singles charts between 1962 and 2005, with 61 chart-topping hits. King’s breakthrough came in the 1960s, when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, co-wrote more than two dozen chart singles for various musicians, several of which became standards.
