Hecker started her career in 2012 as a reporter at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri. She left the station for WXOW News 19 in La Crosse, Wisconsin Area as a weekend anchor in 2014. For three years at the station, she covered a wide variety of stories including historic flooding, opioid abuse at the Tomah VA, and multiple presidential candidate visits.
