Collins was born and raised in Florida by her parents Cathy and Walter Collins. In 2012, she graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. Her junior ranking as a high school player earned her a scholarship to the University of Florida. She transferred to the University of Virginia after her freshman year (UVA). In her sophomore and senior years, she won the NCAA singles championship.
