Who is Dawn Moore?
Dawn Moore is the first lady of Maryland. Her husband and Democrat, Wes Moore made history on November 9, 2022 as the first African American governor of Maryland. The couple has worked on several projects together in the last seven years.
One of these projects was the Maryland Food Bank which happened six years ago. She expressed herself as feeling “fortunate” to be able to contribute to and be a part of that project. Dawn praised her husband on his birthday for being loyal, caring, and leading with love.
She has supported her husband throughout his campaign. She recently shared a photo of herself and Wes on Instagram with a caption that read, “He is a leader, a keeper of promises, a modest government employee, and he will never stop standing up for you.”

Wes and his wife Dawn settled in Baltimore’s Riverside neighborhood in 2006. They sold their Riverside property in February 2021 after renting it out until late 2008 when they bought a home for $1.2 million in the north Baltimore neighborhood of Guilford.
Additionally, they had a home on Park Avenue, which they leased to Tabor Ethiopian Cuisine until finally selling it to the restaurant in 2015. The Moores paid $2.35 million in February 2017 for a house in Guilford that was 8,000 square feet (740 m2).

Road To Maryland Gubernatorial Victory
Wes backed legislation that was brought in and approved during the 2022 legislative session, that would have legalized marijuana for recreational use in Maryland and another law that would have regulated marijuana possession should the referendum’s outcome in November be favorable.
During his campaign, he mentioned developing a recreational cannabis economy that prioritizes equity so that communities who have faced the biggest gaps benefit the most.
On July 19, 2022, Wes won the Democratic primary, after beating Comptroller Peter Franchot and former DNC chairman Tom Perez with 32.4 percent of the vote.
Moore endorsed Joe Biden on two separate ocassions during the general election campaign. He defeated Republican candidate and state delegate Dan Cox in the main election becoming the first Black governor of Maryland and the first veteran to hold the office since William Donald Schaefer.
