Mateschitz’s first employment was as a detergent marketer for Unilever. He subsequently moved to work for Blendax, a German cosmetics company that was eventually bought up by Procter & Gamble, where he was in charge of promoting Blendax toothpaste, among other things.

During his Blendax adventures, he came upon Krating Daeng, the drink that would later become Red Bull. In 1984, he co-founded Red Bull GmbH with Chaleo Yoovidhya, and the brand debuted in Austria in 1987.

As a consequence, he propelled Red Bull to the top of the worldwide energy drink business.

Through commercial sponsorship, Mateschitz’s products are continuously pushed as being connected with the physical and mental traits required for various sorts of extreme sports.

Red Bull once owned more than 60% of the Sauber Formula One racing team and was the team’s primary sponsor.

Red Bull, on the other hand, dissolved its connection with Sauber at the end of 2001 after the team chose to hire Kimi Räikkönen as one of their drivers for the 2001 season instead of Red Bull prodigy Enrique Bernoldi.

Mateschitz purchased the Jaguar Racing Formula One team from its former owners, Ford, in November 2004 and rebranded it Red Bull Racing.

In April 2005, he purchased the Austrian football team SV Austria Salzburg, and in March 2006, he purchased the American club MetroStars; both clubs were later renamed Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls, respectively, after his popular drink.

Red Bull Brasil, a football team headquartered in Campinas, Brazil, was created in 2007. Red Bull Ghana was established in 2008. After purchasing the playing license of SSV Markranstädt, he founded the German football club, RB Leipzig, in May 2009.

He is also the owner of the German ice hockey team EHC München, which has changed its name to Red Bull München since 2012.
