Ellen Leyva Was Raised in Arizona

Ellen was born to Emma Leyva Duarte and Thomas Kraemer Lundy. Her mother who passed away in 2016 was a Mexican immigrant. Her father on the other hand served in the army for two years before working as a high school math and science teacher.

Sadly, Ellen’s father passed away in 2011. Her family spoke two languages while she grew up in Tucson, Arizona.

Her mother’s family is from Mexico, where she spent a lot of time growing up. She claims that being bilingual has been extremely helpful for her career in the big Hispanic populations of Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Even though she complimented her husband’s distinguished military career, she admitted that she is partly relieved that he is no longer in the service as of 2018, as she believes that the world is getting closer to a war at this point.
