Who is Meteorologist Jerry Tracey?
Jerry Tracey is an American meteorologist working at WVTM 13 as the Chief Meteorologist. He updates the Birmingham viewers’ weather reports at 6 and 10 p.m.
He has also worked at The Weather Channel as an on-camera meteorologist and at WINK-Tv as the Weekend Meteorologist, and Science Reporter.

Tracey announced in October that he will be retiring in December 2022. He has been with WVTM for 35 years now and has been the longest-serving chief meteorologist in the station’s history.
Jerry’s last day at WVTM will be on Friday, December 9, 2022. Susana Schuler the President and General Manager of WVTM 13 said;
“Thinking back on the 35 years of service and emergency weather coverage Jerry has provided to the people of Central Alabama, it is difficult to put into words the impact he has had on our community and our safety,”
Jerry was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the fall of 2019. After being given a number of treatment options, he opted for 28 external beam radiation treatments, which he started in January. He took a leave from work in 2020 to undergo treatment.

Tracey has been married to his wife Kathy Tracey. They have been living in Alabama for the last 35 years Jerry has been at WVTM. Jerry and Kathy have two children Stephen and Michele together with four grandchildren.

Tracey began his career at Accu Weather where he was the Expert Senior Forecaster. While there, Jerry handled several duties including analyzing weather and creating forecasts for numerous types of clients.
He briefed television weather anchors on predicted weather and delivered voice forecasts and weather discussions to dozens of North American radio stations.
Jerry joined WINK-TV as the Weekend Meteorologist and Science Reporter in 1985. In June 1985, he was the meteorologist for The Weather Channel. He then joined WAPI radio and later WVTM where he became the Chief Meteorologist.

Tracey joined WVTM 13 in July 1987 as the Chief Meteorologist. He makes the forecast and delivers the weathercast at 5, 6, and 10 pm Monday through Friday on NBC13HD.
Jerry was named the UPI Best Weathercaster in Alabama and twice received the Best Weathercaster award from the Associated Press. He has been nominated for an Emmy for Best Weathercaster in the Southeastern region.
He was twice a member of the WVTM 13 News team awarded an Emmy for Best Newscast. Tracey also has been awarded the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for Television Weathercasting.
