John Harwood Leaving CNN

Harwood announced his exit from CNN, a day after praising Joe Biden for a nationally aired address in which the president claimed that Republican forces loyal to his predecessor in the White House, Donald Trump, threatened American democracy.

He tweeted that he was leaving CNN by noon on Friday. An inquiry about whether his resignation was influenced by his comments backing Biden’s speech and condemning Trump was not quickly answered by CNN.

By the time he was announcing his departure from CNN, Harwood still had two years left on his contract, according to veteran media reporter Dylan Byers.

Chris Licht, the head of CNN, has been upfront about his desire to moderate the opinions on the network’s shows and go back to a more traditional, unbiased, and, in his opinion, less obviously liberal manner of reporting.
