Jonnie Irwin Cancer Diagnosis
Jonnie Irwin revealed on November 13, 2022 that he had been battling lung cancer, which had unfortunately spread to his brain. He was initially diagnosised in Italy in 2020, but he chose to open up in November 2022.
He said: “I’m carrying a dirty secret and it’s become a monkey on my back. I don’t know how long I have left, but I try to stay positive and my attitude is that I’m living with cancer, not dying from it. I want to make memories and capture these moments with my family because the reality is, my boys are going to grow up not knowing their dad and that breaks my heart.”
He was diagnosed when his vision started to become foggy while he was driving, and doctors realized that he had a fatal illness. His life has since been extended by chemotherapy and cancer medications.
Despite this, the English presenter, receives a lot of support by his wife Jessica. The couple live with their three children in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. His situation is similar to that of Dame Deborah James, who decided to go public with her battle against colon cancer in order to increase awareness and support for research.
He has however encouraged others to get life insurance, something he himself did after the birth of his twins. He said: “That has helped so much and when I leave this planet, I’ll do so knowing Jess and the boys are in a house that is fully paid off and there’s a bit of money in the bank for them to live off.”
His social media was flooded with well wishes and words of support when he revealed his diagnosis on Instagram. Friends and coworkers jumped in to lend their support. Jonnie is a strong man. You can imagine that In spite of receiving chemotherapy and other treatments, he has managed to follow his job schedule as much as he could.
At first, he was keen to keep his diagnosis a secret from everyone except a few people, but he has since changed his mind and chosen to share the situation to others so they might learn from his experiences.
