Tappen hosted studio coverage as part of only-female staff that broadcasted and produced the Blues-Blackhawks game on International Women’s Day in March 2020. This was the first NHL game televised and produced entirely by women in the United States.

She worked for the NHL Network for four years from 2011 before joining NBC Sports Group in 2015. She started out as the host of NHL Tonight, the network’s nightly highlight show.

Tappen previously worked for the New England Sports Network (NESN) for five years, where she worked as the principal studio host for Boston Bruins games. She also worked at NBC station WJAR in Providence, Rhode Island, as a weekend anchor and a weekday sports reporter.
