She marketed mainframe computers at Unisys and sold their systems, Honeywell valued at $11 million. Komando authored a computer column for the Arizona Business Gazette while hosting a computer call-in program.

It is broadcast late at night on Phoenix’s KFYI.  She founded “The Komando Corporation” in 1992, with herself as President/CEO and her mother as the Secretary.

She left Unisys sales to focus on her syndicated newspaper column and radio show while earning barely $60 per week from the column and show combined.

Komando created computer training tapes called Komputer Tutor, which she wrote, presented, and marketed through an infomercial. Over 150,000 tapes were sold at prices ranging from $80 to $120 apiece.

Prodigy was among the tapes in the second generation and the third generation of tapes included America Online.

Komando and her husband, Barry Young, established WestStar Multimedia in the mid-1990s and four years later,  they launched their first studio. ABC and CBS Radio rejected the show in 1994, claiming that a national radio show on the issue would be a failure since computers and the Internet were a temporary trend.

WestStar’s employees relocated to a $7.5 million, 24,000 square-foot multimedia center in 2015, equipped with radio studios and production facilities for TV shows and podcasts.
