He was reportedly on the verge of not signing his contract with the Seven Network at the end of the previous year. The network decided to give him the role of host for The Chase in an effort to convince him to stay.

After the final episode with Andrew O’Keefe aired on July 20, 2021, the programs with Emdur as the host started broadcasting on July 26, 2021.
