One of her memorable career highlights came on January 6, 2021. She was inside the US Capitol reporting on the tally and confirmation of the 2020 Presidential Electoral College votes when the building was besieged by violent rioters.

Lisa carried on live reporting while being assaulted by a demonstrator. She and other members of Congress and staff were taken to the Longworth House Office Building after being rescued.

Desjardins came back a few hours later to cover the rescheduled procedure of vote verification, and he stayed in the Capitol until 3:45 AM the next morning.

PBS NewsHour ended up winning a Peabody Award For its coverage of the events of January 6, 2022. Desjardins happened to be the only journalist who reported live from the Capitol at that time.
