Marc Thiessen’s Career in Media

Washington, D.C., soon after completing his college studies, and has worked there for many years. From 1989 to 1993, he worked as a lobbyist for Black, Manafort, Stone, and Kelly (BMSK), which is now part of the American Legislative Exchange Council.

One of the firm’s initial clients, Donald Trump, who was also one of the founders and name partners of BMSK, pardoned both Paul Manafort and Roger Stone after they were both found guilty of felonies while serving in the Trump administration.

Manafort was found guilty on eight counts, prosecuted on ten more, and later charged in New York with dozens more offenses. Stone on the other hand was found guilty of seven crimes.

Marc worked on Capitol Hill for Jesse Helms (R-NC), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, from 1995 to 2001 as his spokesperson and senior policy advisor.

In 2001, he started working for the George W. Bush administration as a member of Bush’s speechwriting staff. He was appointed chief speechwriter in February 2008 following William McGurn’s resignation.

Thiessen and Peter Schweizer established Oval Office Writers LLC as a communications company in March 2009. Thiessen has worked as a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution since 2009. He also has a resident fellow position at the American Enterprise Institute.

Since March 2010, Thiessen has written columns for The Washington Post. He has lobbied against the Iran nuclear deal and complained about the Obama administration in his writings. He claimed in 2020 that President Donald Trump’s action to kill Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was “defensive, preemptive, and lawful.”
