Mackie worked as a forecaster and producer for FSU Weather, a student-produced, nightly cable television weather show, while still at Florida State University.

When Hurricane Hermine passed over Tallahassee in 2016, he witnessed firsthand the destructive power of tropical weather. He also studied at the university’s study center in Valencia, Spain, for a year.

He moved to Macon, Georgia after college to work as a Meteorologist and Reporter at WGXA-TV.

During Hurricane Irma in 2017, Matt was on the air for hours at a time, keeping viewers safe as gusty winds and torrential rain swept through Middle Georgia.

He did it again during Hurricane Michael in 2018, providing coverage to his sister station in Albany, Georgia, when 70 mph winds knocked them off the air.

Mackie covered everything from storm damage to breaking news and city council meetings as a reporter.

He even dabbled in investigative reporting, assisting a group of Alabama students in locating one of their science class projects a missing weather balloon over Georgia!

He is thrilled to be at News10, where he will be tasked with forecasting weather in New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts! After living in Florida and Georgia for several years, he is looking forward to seeing snow again this winter.
