Maverick City Music Bio| Founders
Maverick City Music is an American contemporary worship music collective and record label. It was founded by Jonathan Jay and Tony Brown in 2018 after hosting seventeen songwriting camps. Over one hundred Christian songwriters and artists came together and created over one hundred songs.
The aim of these camps was to create space for diversity by including often marginalized creatives such as black people and women who identified as CCM singers and songwriters and bringing their voices to the fore.
The collective debuted its first eps in 2019 Maverick City, Vol. 1, and Maverick City, Vol. 2. In 2020 during the Covid 19 Lockdown, they released two live albums: Maverick City Vol. 3 Part 1 and Maverick City, Vol. 3 Pt. 2 which featured the single Promises by Naomi Raine and Joe L. Barnes.
Maverick City Music’s second collaborative EP with Upperroom, Move Your Heart, was released in 2021. This was followed by the release of a new EP, Jubilee (2021).
Maverick City Music’s first Spanish-language album, Como En El Cielo (2021), included the single “Acercame.” They also worked with Elevation Worship on the album Old Church Basement, which included hit promotional singles “Jireh,” “Talking to Jesus,” and “Wait on You.”
