Moreno began his television career in Weslaco, Texas, with the Rio Grande Valley’s news leader, KRGV-TV Channel 5 News. She covered a wide range of stories, from border-crime matters to hurricane coverage and other local issues.

Eventually, she made her way back to Houston and started working as a substitute anchor and reporter for CW 39 News on KIAH-TV. Unfortunately, she was among the crew members who were most affected when the CW programming switched to its current “NewsFix” format and laid off a number of on-air staff.
Luckily, it turned out that a similar opportunity presented itself at KENS-TV in San Antonio in 2011. Mayra has no hard feelings. In fact, she still watches the CW program sometimes because she is a news enthusiast and she expresses her happiness that they were able to adapt the “NewsFix” program to what they desired.
Mayra has reported on several notable stories throughout the course of her career. She was one of many journalists who covered the tragic 2009 shooting at Fort Hood while working at the CW.
Mayra was nominated for a Lone Star Emmy in San Antonio for her research on the city’s DWI no-refusal program, where blood samples were collected and backed up court proceedings.
