Mike Breen is a renowned sports commentator from the United States. He has been working as the primary commentator for NBA games on ABC and ESPN, since 2006, including the NBA Finals.
According to his resume, Breen has also worked in the radio industry. He started his radio career officially as a sportscaster on WNBC radio in the early 1980s, and frequently filled in for Dave Sims as presenter of “SportsNight” on the station.
From 1988 until 2000, Breen hosted the sports part on WFAN and the nationally televised Imus in the Morning Talk/Comedy radio show.

Mike Breen’s Career At ESPN
NBA veteran play-caller Mike serves as the NBA’s primary announcer on ESPN and ABC, as well as for the NBA Finals and NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC. Prior to the 2022–23 NBA season, he had called the championship game a record-breaking 17 times.
He started working with Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy on ESPN and ABC in October 2003, when he joined ESPN’s NBA staff. Breen was the recipient of the 2020 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Curt Gowdy Media Award.
He enjoyed 12 seasons of NBA play-by-play experience prior to joining ESPN, and he had previously worked on national NBC broadcasts for the Knicks and for the radio and television networks at Madison Square Garden in New York.
In addition, he has provided NFL play-by-play for NBC and FOX. NBC also hired Breen to cover the WNBA and the men’s and women’s basketball competitions at the 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games.
Breen was selected “Broadcaster of the Year” in his home state of New York by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association in 1998. In 2022, his alma mater, Fordham University, presented him with the “Vin Scully Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting”.

Mike Breen Was Disappointed After ESPN Laidoff Van Gundy and Jackson
Breen describes ESPN’s firings of longstanding partners Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy as “difficult to accept.” ESPN is set to give him two new colleagues: Doris Burke, who will be reassigned from her sideline reporter role during the Finals, and Doc Rivers, who was recently ousted as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Breen will have to adjust to life without the two brothers he had in the studio, but their time together will be remembered fondly. He said; “I admire both of them not only for their broadcasting skills but also for the men they are. I just feel so privileged to have that time with Van Gundy and Jackson.”
