Mike Missanelli The Fanatic WPEN

Born and raised in Bristol, Pennsylvania, Missanelli started his career in his hometown as a newspaper writer, working at the Philadelphia Inquirer and after some time he started working on-air at 610 WIP radio and 93.3 WMMR. He joined WPHL-TV in 2000 where he worked as a sports director and anchor.

In 2003, Missanelli left the station when his contract expired. Missanelli signed a new multi-year deal in January 2010, at ESPN affiliate, 97.5 The Fanatic. In January 2003, he was fired from 610 WIP and started a show with Joe Conklin on WMMR. Apart from his radio work, he is also a professor at Saint Joseph’s University.

During an interview with Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers, Missanelli referred to the Eagles kicker as a “girl” and went ahead to criticize him for not being “a real athlete” and also called him “just a kicker”. Missanelli was fired from WIP in 2006 after an altercation with an on-site producer in which it was alleged that he hit the producer.

Missanelli has repeatedly battled the perceptions of Philadelphia fans, as he himself has written, reassuring that when he tears into a guest, like Michael Wilbon or Skip Bayless or Keith Law, he does it for a good reason that has absolutely nothing to do with him personally and everything to do with having the backs of the people, who have had to walk the filthy water of Philly fan perception, promoted by lazy national media nitwits, way too long.

Philadelphia Magazine profiled Missanelli in July 2010, in an article outlining the Philadelphia sports talk radio rating war.
