From a young age, Hossain had aspirations of working as a journalist. She was granted an internship program at ITV Border on Lookaround in 1996, working as a news presenter, producer, and reporter. She presented for The Medical Channel in 2000.

Nina started working as a reporter and presenter for BBC London’s Newsroom South East and BBC London News in 2001. She took over as the show’s lead presenter in March 2004 while Emily Maitlis was on maternity leave.

She served as the word pronouncer for the first season of the kids’ spelling bee on BBC One. Nina resumed her position in the one-off Star Spell episode, but by the time the spin-off turned into a full series, she had moved to ITV.
