Until her untimely death, she was an activist for both environmental and animal rights matters.

Olivia Newton-John received a breast cancer diagnosis in 1992, the same weekend that her father passed away. You can imagine the emotional weight she had at the moment. However, she made a full recovery and has since advocated research into breast cancer and other health challenges.

Her cancer was revealed to have returned and spread to her lower back in May 2017. The doctors had initially misdiagnosed the pains with sciatica.

She later admitted that this was truly her third battle with breast cancer because, in addition to her first 1992 struggle, she had also secretly fought a relapse of the disease in 2013. The cancer had spread to her bones and reached stage IV by the time of the 2017 recurrence.

The metastatic bone lesions caused her a great amount of pain, and she had openly discussed taking cannabis oil to relieve it. She supported the usage of medical marijuana. Chloe, her daughter, has a marijuana farm in Oregon.

In April, she organized a three-week, 228 kilometer walk along the Great Wall of China. A number of famous people and cancer survivors participated in her journey. The route of the walk represented the steps cancer sufferers must take to heal.
