Patrisse Cullors is an American activist, artist, and writer. She is best known as the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement. She came up with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter in 2013, and since then, she has written and spoken consistently about the movement.

Cullors also advocates for the rights of LGBTQ people and the abolishment of prisons in Los Angeles. In her activism, she incorporates concepts from critical theory as well as global social movements. She has two books to her credit.

Her biological father, Gabriel, was a violent criminal who frequently served jail sentences on drug-related crimes before passing away in a homeless shelter in 2009. Nonetheless, Patrisse spoke of him as being a dependable and considerate presence in her life.

Patrisse was brought up in the household of her stepfather, Alton Cullors, who had previously worked at a General Motors plant in Van Nuys before it was shut down leaving him with no choice but to take on odd jobs. After a while, Alton moved away from his family, leaving Cherice to look after the children alone.

Monte was then slapped with a 32-month prison term rather than treatment at a mental health clinic. She founded Dignity and Power Now, the principal organization for a multidimensional, trauma-informed, healing-driven effort to put an end to state brutality and criminal justice reform.

What Happened To Patrisse’s Cousin?

Cullors’s cousin Keenan Anderson died on January 3, 2023, after an incident involving Los Angeles Police officers following a traffic accident. He was tased for about thirty seconds by one cop while another placed an elbow on his neck. At one point, he was saying, “They’re trying to George Floyd me”

He was sent to a hospital, where he suffered a heart attack and passed away four and a half hours later. Cocaine was discovered in Anderson’s system by a toxicology report. It is unknown what caused the death.
