Hughes began her career as a producer and traffic announcer in the early 90s at WIP-FM radio. Over the next few years, Rhea worked for the 76ers broadcast as a sports update anchor, a producer, an engineer, and an Eagles reporter for the station. From 2011 to 2015, she hosted CSNPhilly.com’s Lunch Break webcast.

Rhea joined the WIP Morning Show in 1997 together with Angelo Cataldi and Al Morganti. Although some of her listeners have criticized her for her outspoken views, some of them respect her knowledge and opinion of Philly sports. During her time with WIP, she has dedicated some of her time to ventures outside of the station.

Hughes has worked as a sideline reporter for the Philadelphia Soul arena football team and as the P.A. announcer for Temple University’s women’s basketball team. Hughes filled in as a commentator for her alma mater’s football team broadcast in 2006.
