Robert Glasper is an American singer and songwriter, record producer, pianist, and arranger. He diffuses his music into different genres such as Jazz, hip hop, R&B, neo-soul, and fusion jazz.

In February 2023, he won Best R&B Album and was nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for his album Black Radio III at the Grammy Awards.

Glasper’s musical journey grew while he was still a teenager playing piano at his church. After he graduated from the University he began working with his friends such as Christian McBride, Russell Malone, Reid, and vocalist Bilal.

He has since contributed to Bilal’s debut and second album and played piano on Mos Def’s tour. Glasper released his first album called Mood in 2003. He then released Canvas, In My Element, Double-Booked, Black Radio, Covered, Black Radio 2, and Black Radio 3.

Robert dropped “Better Than I Imagined,” the lead track from his upcoming Black Radio 3 album, on August 27 of 2020. It includes Meshell Ndegeocello and H.E.R.

Glasper participated in the remote COVID-19 pandemic lockdown-related live-streamed recording of Bilal’s EP Voyage-19 in August 2020.

For the educational Netflix series Bookmarks, in which Black celebrities and artists read children’s books by Black authors to spark meaningful conversations about empathy, equality, justice, self-love, and anti-racism,

Glasper worked with Common in September 2020 to write and perform the closing theme song. The program includes readings from celebrities like Misty Copeland, Jill Scott, and Lupita Nyong’o.

In 2018, Glasper joined Wynton Marsalis, Smino, and Tom Colicchio on The Potash Twins’ series “Beats + Bites.”

Robert was born and raised by his parents Kim Yvette Glasper and Gerald Glasper. He was raised in a strong Christian family where he would play at the local Catholic and Seventh-Day Adventist churches.

His mother was a pianist and a gospel singer at her church. she was also a member of a band that worked the city’s jazz and blues club circuit. His mother was his strongest musical influence.

Glasper would play around with her mother’s piano and by twelve he already knew how to play it.
