Scott Pelley is an American journalist and author who worked for CBS News as a correspondent and anchor for over 31 years.

He is also the 60 Minutes correspondent for CBS. From 2011 to 2017, he was the managing editor and anchor for CBS Evening News where he got the highest ratings in more than a decade.

Scott Pelley Journalist

Pelley began his career as a journalist at KSEL-TV in 1975. He then joined o KXAS-TV in Fort Worth and later WFAA-TV in Dallas where he worked for seven years. He joined CBS News in 1989 in New York and shortly returned to its Dallas bureau to cover national affairs.

Pelley covered the 1992 presidential campaigns of Ross Perot and Bill Clinton and also broadcasted on the Oklahoma City bombing, Waco Siege, and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

In 1997, he was appointed the  Chief White House Correspondent until 1999 during the impeachment of President Clinton. He also got to interview former President Clinton in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

Soon after, Pelley became the host of 60 Minutes II where he got his first interview with president-elect George W. Bush. The following year, he was one of the first reporters broadcasting from the scene of the collapsing World Trade Center towers.

He also landed his first major tv interview with FBI Director James Comey in 2014 after he covered the war in  Iraq on the front lines in the battle against ISIS. He later interviewed one of the Navy SEALs who helped to kill Osama bin Laden.

On June 6, 2011, Pelley was appointed the new CBS Evening News anchor replacing Katie Couric. The network saw an increase in its audience and viewers since Pelley took over the anchoring desk. It became the fastest-growing network evening news broadcast in 2016.

In May 2017, Pelley was fired from the prime time slot it was later revealed that he was released from his duties after complaining to CBS News management about a hostile work environment.
