After that, he moved on to the now-defunct CNNSI network and afterward to ESPN in February 2000, where he began at ESPNEWS and later served as an anchor for SportsCenter. Daron Sutton was replaced as the Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster by Steve Berthiaume in October 2012.

The Bleacher Report published a list of the top 50 worst announcers in the world in 2008. Berthiaume ended up at number 33 on the list. He hosted a number of (typically weekend) editions of Baseball Tonight.
Berthiaume was recruited as a play-by-play broadcaster for FOX Sports Arizona in 2012, replacing Daron Sutton, and was cited as stating, “The opportunity to be at the ballpark every day is a dream come true.”
