Steve Berthiaume Arizona Diamondbacks

Berthiaume began his career as a journalist with WTIC-TV in Hartford, Connecticut, where he reported on both men’s and women’s basketball at the University of Connecticut and their participation in the NCAA tournament.

After that, he moved on to the now-defunct CNNSI network and afterward to ESPN in February 2000, where he began at ESPNEWS and later served as an anchor for SportsCenter. Daron Sutton was replaced as the Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster by Steve Berthiaume in October 2012.

Berthiaume has also worked as an anchor for the ABC affiliate in Pensacola, Florida (WEAR), as well as the NBC affiliates in Providence, Rhode Island, Columbia, South Carolina, and Charlottesville, Virginia (WJAR-TV, WIS-TV, and WVIR-TV).

Berthiaume left ESPN in 2006 to assume the role of the main sportscaster for the new SNY network launched by the New York Mets. However, in late January 2007, SNY released Berthiaume from his contract to rejoin ESPN’s SportsCenter on March 28, 2007, in order to work closer to his wife.

The Bleacher Report published a list of the top 50 worst announcers in the world in 2008. Berthiaume ended up at number 33 on the list. He hosted a number of (typically weekend) editions of Baseball Tonight.

Berthiaume was recruited as a play-by-play broadcaster for FOX Sports Arizona in 2012, replacing Daron Sutton, and was cited as stating, “The opportunity to be at the ballpark every day is a dream come true.”

He formerly worked as a play-by-play announcer for ESPN, where he called various professional games as well as the College World Series.
