Steve Hartman’s Career
Hartman is a sports anchor for KTLA 5. He spent 12 years as a weekend sports anchor for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles before joining the station. Steve has covered many major league all-star games, 13 Final Fours, 15 Super Bowls, and other national athletic events throughout his career.
In 1996, the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association recognized him for “best radio analyst” for his work as the UCLA football color analyst.
In 2002, the SCSBA nominated him for “best radio talk show host.” Two years later, he was honored with a spot in the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
Hartman rose to prominence as the sports editor of the Daily Bruin, where he received West Coast collegiate accolades for his coverage of the 1980 Final Four. After completing his studies, Hartman worked for three years as an assistant producer for KABC Radio’s afternoon sports show in Los Angeles.
After that, he worked for the Los Angeles Raiders for four years as their media relations and publications director. In addition, Hartman edited magazines for the UCLA Bruins, Raiders, and Dodgers along with the Los Angeles Rams and Rampages publications. Hartman started working as a sports announcer at KFOX in Los Angeles in February 1989.
A year later, he played a key role in the official opening of XTRA Sports Radio in San Diego, the first all-sports radio station in Southern California known as the Loose Cannons.
