Suzanne Somers was an American actress, author, entrepreneur, and health spokesperson. She worked her way to the top since her early years in San Bruno, California, where she was born. Suzanne was raised in a working-class Irish-American Catholic household with her three siblings. She was the second last child.
Suzanne got the grit of hard work from her parents. Her mother, Marion Elizabeth worked as a secretary in a medical facility while her father worked as a gardener. Things started to go south when Suzanne turned six.
Her father sunk deep into alcoholism to the point that he started to be abusive. It became worse when she started to call her names which embarrassed her.
Nonetheless, Suzanne was level-headed and she was focused on her studies and career. She started acting in the 1970s and appeared on various talk shows. All roles that she embarked on were preparing her for the great future.
Her breakthrough came in 2012 when she launched her online talk show, Suzanne Somers Breaking Through, at CafeMom. The show became so big and it became a favorite among her fans.
In one of the memorable instances of the show, three of the episodes featured a reunion and reconciliation with former Three’s Company co-star Joyce DeWitt; the two had not seen nor spoken to each other in three decades.
Towards the end of 2012, The Suzanne Show aired for a whole season on the Lifetime Network with 13 episodes. She hosted various guests and had conversations about health and fitness.

At the time of her passing, Somers was married to Alan Hamel, a Canadian actor and television host. However, they were previously married prior to their current marriage and Alan was older than her with an age difference of 10 years.
They met many years back at the time Alan hosted a game show called The Anniversary Game. Suzanne happened to be working as a prize model for the show. They clicked and started their friendship right away.
They took their friendship slowly which eventually turned into a romantic relationship. It is reported that the couple lived together for a decade until their marriage in 1977. Their wedding ceremony was presided over by a rabbi and a Catholic priest.
Hamel has long been the stepfather of Bruce Jt. Suzanne’s son from her first marriage which ended in divorce. Suzanne and her first husband, Bruce Somers met when she was still a teen and they got their son in her teenage years. They married in 1965 when she was 19 but their marriage did not last long.

Somers has battled breast cancer for more than two decades. She received a stage II breast cancer diagnosis in April 2000 and underwent radiation therapy after a lumpectomy to remove the disease. She then opted not to undergo chemotherapy in favor of a fermented mistletoe extract known as Iscador.
Suzanne revealed in June 2023 that cancer had made its way back. Things got worse on October 15, 2023, and she passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours. She was supposed to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16, 2023. Nonetheless, the family will still celebrate her life.
