Tori Cooper Atlanta News First

Tori had always envisioned herself as a professional soccer player. She participated in the PAC12 and SEC conferences while playing Division 1 soccer for free at the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Georgia. Later, she rejected professional soccer offers from the United States and Barcelona, Spain, in favor of a career in television.

She began her career at FOX31 Denver as an intern sports reporter. After finishing her internship program, she was able to secure a position in production at FOX31, where she worked the morning show shift from 2 to 4 in the morning, doing all of the behind-the-scenes duties that most people don’t want to do in the newsroom.

Although this change was difficult, the skills she developed as a full-time Division 1 student-athlete enabled her to persevere through the physical and emotional demands of pursuing her career aspirations.

She would leave the studio after her shift and go to her waitress job, where she would work from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., sleep in her car, and then come back to work from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. She would then return to FOX31 for the night shift at 1:30 a.m. the following day.

On certain days, she would even skip her car nap in favor of going to the studio to get scripts, practice anchoring, or follow a reporter around as they worked on a story. She eventually found her first on-air job in Kennewick, Washington, at ABC KAPP-KVEW local news as a Sports Anchor/Reporter after working behind the scenes and having enough time to observe.

Her skills quickly developed, enabling her to become a news anchor/MMJ. Soon after, she moved on to Bakersfield’s 23ABC News, where she began working as a news reporter before being elevated to Weekend Anchor. Fast Foward and she is currently working at Atlanta News First as an anchor and reporter.
