Who is Victor Wembanyama?
Victor Wembanyama is a professional basketball player from France. He plays for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is the tallest active NBA player with a height of 7 feet 5 inches (2.26 meters).
Wembanyama was born to a Congolese dad and French Mom
Wembanyama was born and raised by his Congolese father Felix Wembanyama and French mother Elodie de Fautereau. He was raised alongside his sister Eve and brother Oscar Wembanyama.
Victor comes from an athletic family whereas his grandmother, Marie Christine, and grandfather Michel de Fautereau played basketball. His father was a track and field athlete while his mother is a former basketball player and now a coach.
Wembanyama’s sister Eve plays professional basketball for the French LDLC team ASVEL Feminin and Monaco Basket Association. His brother younger Oscar is also a basketball and handball player. He previously played for the Nanterre U15 team and moved to play for Asvel in 2020.

Coming from an athletic family. Wembanyama was always active in a sport as young as he could remember. His mother Elodie introduced him to basketball when he was seven years old as she was a basketball player and coach herself. He began playing for Entente Le Chesnay Versailles when he was seven before he joined Nanterre 92 when he was 10 years old.
In 2018 February, Wembanyama played for FC Barcelona at the Minicopa del Rey, an under-14 tournament in Spain. He then played for the Nanterre 92 senior team during the 2019–20 season and later competed in the LNB Espoirs.
His first professional game happened on 29 October 2019 in the EuroCup where he played against Brescia at only 15 years old. In 2020, he signed with Centre Fédéral in the Nationale Masculine 1 and split his time between Nanterre 92 and Centre Fédéral.
In June 2021, Victor joined ASVEL majorly owned by former French basketball player Tony Parker. At the EuroLeague Rising Star award, Victor finished second after averaging 6.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in the EuroLeague.
In July 2022, he signed a two-year contract with Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A. During the 2022 Metropolitans 92 vs NBA G League Ignite game, Wembanyama was widely recognized in America the game was nationally televised. His team won 112–106 against the Ignite in their second game scoring 36 points and seizing 11 rebounds.
San Antonio Spurs
Wembanyama declared for the 2023 NBA draft in April 2023. He was then selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft on 22 June 2023. He is viewed as one of the greatest NBA prospects of his generation.

Wembanyama signed a four-year contract worth $55.2 million. He will start with about $12,160,632 which will increase to around $16 million in 2026/27. He is perceived to have the highest rookie contract in NBA history.
