Although Ball is most known for her work on television, she began her radio career in October 1997 when she co-hosted Radio 1 Breakfast on BBC Radio 1 with Kevin Greening. Her excessive partying and drinking habits at the time helped define the term “ladette culture” in the late 1990s. As a result, BBC issued her with two warnings for swearing live on the radio.

She left BBC Radio 1 in March 2000 to start a family and a new chapter in her life. That same month, she did her final show before being replaced by Sara Cox. She returned to BBC Radio in September 2007 and co-hosted a show honoring BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2’s 40th anniversaries with Sara Cox.

In 2009, she took over as Ken Bruce’s weekly mid-morning BBC Radio 2 show’s regular replacement host. She took over as host of The Radio 2 Breakfast Show on October 3, 2018, and it debuted on January 14, 2019, succeeding Chris Evans. However, Rylan Clark-Neal replaced Ball in the Saturday mid-afternoon time slot.
