Sam Dick Biography and Wiki

Sam Dick is an American journalist working at WKYT-TV as a news anchor. He has also worked at WCBS in New York City as a news reporter until 1982. He then joined WESH in Orlando where he worked as a consumer, medical, and investigative reporter.

Sam Dick WKYT

Dick joined WKYT  in 1979 as a news reporter, and later Co-Host of PM Magazine. The 30-minute, early evening program was a big hit with Kentucky viewers every weeknight at 7. They did stories on white water canoeing, mountain climbing in West Va., cave exploring, the Dukes of Hazard visiting Hazard and so much more.

He left the station in 1982 and joined WCBS in New York City as a news reporter until 1982. He then joined WESH in Orlando where he worked as a consumer, medical, and investigative reporter.  In September 1987, Dick returned to WKYT as an early and late-night news anchor. He has worked at WKYT for half his life as he describes it. He shared the anchor desk with Amber Philpott for the past 17 years.

Sam Dick Cancer

Dick was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010. His father had died from prostate cancer three months earlier. He was examined by his urologist, Dr. Fred. Hadley and treated by Dr. Smith. His father urged him me to see a urologist before turning 50 since his family has a history of prostate cancer. He went public with his cancer to raise awareness and urge men o get tested in their 40s.

Sam Dick Retiring

Dick announced in May 2021 that he would be retiring from the WKYT news desk on 24th November 2021 scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving. He has worked at the station for 34 years. In his farewell statement, he said;

“When I first walked in the door at WKYT in March of 1979, I was 23 years old. The newsroom still had typewriters, we shot film for news, and there were just four-channel options on TV for viewers. A lot has changed since then, but what hasn’t changed is my focus as a journalist: be a truth-seeker, be fair, accurate, and compassionate.”

“I have been blessed to work with some super talented broadcasters over many decades. There are so many producers, reporters, editors, and fellow anchors who have made me a better journalist. Our current crew, Amber Philpott, Chris Bailey, and Brian Milam are the best of the best,”
