Donchey was exposed to the field of journalism early in her career during her time at San Francisco State University. She worked in different aspects for Golden Gate Express and this prepared her for her future career. She has so fa r worked in news programs in Texas, Los Angeles, and now San Francisco again.
Donchey says she enjoyed her first exposure to the field of broadcasting with the Xpress, but she was also drawn to the visual narrative and performance prospects offered by the broadcast news format.
Soon after leaving college, she landed a job at KPIX but she was assigned minor roles. She connected with a KPIX reporter on Twitter, which helped her land a job as a production assistant at the station following her SF State graduation.
She found out about what she calls a unique friendship that can only be developed in a newsroom ten years ago while creating editorial cartoons in the Humanities building.
Sara relocated to Houston in 2015 to take a job at KPRC-TV as an anchor and reporter. She was in charge of the station’s 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. programs. During her time there, she traversed the country to report on two Super Bowls, the 2016 Dallas Police shooting, and the San Bernardino terror attack.
Her credentials indicate that she worked for CBS2, KCAL9, KRIS-TV, and KZTV before returning to KPIX where she started her career. She currently anchors the 11 p.m newscast for the station and she’s proud to be pursuing her dream job.
