Sarah Michals Career
Michals is a reporter at WXYZ. She started her career at a young age, probably 12 years when he used to sit at the kitchen table, hold his mom’s coffee mug, and pretend to be one of the journalists she watched on WXYZ.
She also began to find herself on the wrong side of the school for talking excessively during these same years. It was therefore only natural that she would pursue her passion for journalism, her curiosity, and her unwillingness to stop asking questions and turn them into stories and become a reporter.
Sarah began her career in Northern Michigan as a feature reporter for the “On the Road” segment. They would journey to various cities in Northern Michigan daily to showcase the goodness occurring there. It was an amazing experience, ingesting a range of unusual burger flavors on National Burger Day and taking a flight in an L-39 Albatros Fighter Jet.
Her second job in television journalism took her to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she anchors the morning news and started covering more controversial stories. She covered Grand Rapids events including the 2020 summer riot and the BLM demonstrations when she was there.
Lansing was the next in line. She worked as a senior reporter and anchor at FOX47 in Lansing for a year and a half before taking on the Capitol. Here, Sarah tracked the 2021 Lansing mayoral contest while working on in-depth news articles where she made a concerted effort to present all sides of a topic.
After all, this is where she was meant to be—at home. A good story, so the saying goes, unites the start and the finish. She first became interested in journalism by watching WXYZ and admiring the journalists employed by Southeast Michigan.
