Anthony worked at Fendi under Karl Lagerfeld for two years. He specialized in fur designs. He had met his boyfriend who lived in Paris and would always move back and forth to meet him. In January 2009, he moved back to Paris with his boyfriend who encouraged him to make his eponymous ready-to-wear collection showing five looks in the window of the Parisian boutique Maria Luisa.
The collection won the 2011 ANDAM prize, causing global buzz when the model Anja Rubik wore a revealing white Vaccarello dress to the 2012 Met Ball. He had gained a celebrity following, dressing Gwyneth Paltrow, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miley Cyrus, and Jennifer Lopez.
Anthony joined Versus Versace in 2014 initially as a consultant and later as a creative director. He worked there for three years where he also created the famous capsule collection for Versus Versace.
He went on to create several collections for Versus until April 2016 when it was announced that he had been appointed creative director of Saint Laurent Paris. For the first full year as creative designer at Saint Laurent, the income had increased by 25.3 percent in revenue over 2016.
