Francois-Henri Pinault started his career at PPR, which was known as Pinault Distribution at the time, in 1987. He worked his way up the ranks and became the manager of the buying department in 1988, the head manager of France Bois Industries in 1989, and the head manager of Pinault Distribution in 1990. Pinault then became the president of CFAO in 1993 and the CEO of Fnac in 1997. During the 1990s, Pinault Distribution became PPR – an international player in the retail sector.
In May 2003, Pinault was appointed vice president of PPR and president of Groupe Artémis, PPR’s parent company. Pinault became President and CEO of PPR in March 2005. He initiated the company’s transformation into an international luxury fashion conglomerate and confirmed Kering’s exit from the Sport & Lifestyle sector in 2018 in order to focus solely on the Luxury sector.
Pinault has been the President of Groupe Artémis, Kering’s parent company, since 2003. He is also the owner of Château Latour winery, Christie’s auction house, and the Stade Rennais F.C. soccer team of France Ligue 1. In 2015, Artémis made an investment in the cruise ship operator Compagnie du Ponant. The Pinault family donated $113 million through Artémis to repair Notre-Dame de Paris following the 2019 fire.
