Garner started her career in 2008 as an intern at WWAY News Channel 3. In 2010, she had a brief stint at Wrightsville Beach Magazine & Lumina News where she served as a Published Writing intern.
The following year, Katie joined WBTV Charlotte as a traffic anchor and weather forecaster. She served as the Noon Weather Forecaster and did Traffic on the Morning News as well as the Evening News.
She also served as a Columnist at Salisbury Post, though for fun. Katie stated that she loved writing columns for Salisbury. She was given permission to contribute whenever an idea would occur in her mind by the editor, Elizabeth Cook.

Katie joined FOX8 WGHP as a Weather Forecaster in June 2016. She covered the weather for the noon and four o’clock newscasts, as well as stepping in occasionally for the morning show and evening news.
