He has served the role of bailiff for over twenty years on the show making him the longest-running court show bailiff. Petri joined the Judge Judy Show around 1996. He got the job through a congratulatory message he had sent Judy. He met Judy Sheindlin while he was working as a court officer at the Family Court division in Manhattan while Judy was the Supervising Family Court Judge.

On the show, he introduces the cases, delivers materials between the disputants and the judge, discharges the parties, and escorts them out when their case is over.

Petri’s role might seem so minor since he only speaks when summoned by Judy Sheildlin. He, however, has a major role behind the scenes where he sometimes performs drug tests on the disputants or gives them counseling before being referred to a professional counselor. He also corrects Sheindlin when she is wrong and also provides answers to areas the judge is not familiar with.
