Sidney is not new to this problem. Her woes started in 2020 when she joined the legal team of then-President Donald Trump in an effort to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election.

She and eighteen other people were summoned to court on August 14, 2023, as part of the prosecution involving Georgia’s 2020 election.

According to the prosecution, Trump orchestrated an illegal activity operation in which he and all the other participants “intentionally and consciously joined a scheme to illegally manipulate the results” of the 2020 U.S. presidential election in Georgia.

Powell appeared in several interviews and it was discovered that she said lies about the election. In the aftermath, Trump’s legal team distanced itself from her, but she continued to meet Trump in the White House.

Powell proceeded to separately file disputes in district courts over elections, but in the end, she was unsuccessful in four federal lawsuits that were filed in Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin.

On October 19, 2023, Powell pleaded guilty to six criminal offenses in the Georgia conspiracy case. She was sentenced to six years on probation, a $6,000 fine, and $2,700 in reimbursement.
