Finau defeated future PGA Tour player Daniel Summerhays to win the Utah State Amateur Championship in 2006. In 2013, he participated in the PGA Tour Canada, making seven cuts out of eight starts.

His first PGA Tour victory came at the Puerto Rico Open in March 2016. He made the decision to take his chances at the 2017 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play rather than defend his Puerto Rico championship in 2017.

This kept two players out of the field, leaving only the top 64 available players from the Official World Golf Ranking. Finau was defeated by Webb Simpson in a sudden-death playoff at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February 2020.

With two holes remaining, he held a two-stroke lead, but Simpson responded with back-to-back birdies to make it to the playoff, which Simpson won. However, Finau lost the match as a result.

Finau had a five-week period in the beginning of 2021 where he reached the top 4 in each of the four competitions that he played. He won the 3M Open in July 2022, earning him three PGA Tour victories overall.
