Yasmin Vossoughian’s Misdiagnosis Meant That Things Could Get Worse
Yasmin’s misdiagnosis in February 2023 meant that what began as a regular cold could have become life-threatening. She explained to fans on air that she had missed the program because she was “coping with a little bit of a health concern.”
She said in a video released by MSNBC in February 2023 that she had chest problems on December 20 which lasted for ten days. On December 30, she went to a neighboring urgent care clinic for treatment and was informed she had reflux.
Her husband rushed her to the emergency department when she complained of chest issues. She was diagnosed with pericarditis, which she describes as inflammation of the lining of her heart brought on by a common cold.
She was discharged from the hospital after spending several nights there and having the excess fluid surrounding her heart drained. Three days later, she experienced “a flutter” in her heart, and was brought back to the hospital.
Later it was discovered that she had myocarditis, which she had previously defined as “inflammation of the actual heart muscle.” It was merely the cold that was causing all of this, she said after spending five days in the hospital receiving treatment and tests. All of this swelling had been brought on by it around the chambers of her heart.
Vossoughian described herself as “a pretty healthy person,” noting her seven-mile weekly runs, vegetarianism, yoga practice, abstinence from smoking, and her ability to drink “occasionally” but no longer able to owing to medical advice.
